Ol' Blue Eyes

A special thank you goes to all the people who responded to Kay's plea, but esp. to Mike and Kathleen B. of Southampton, PA for donating the remaining monies ($250) in loving memory of their Tri Border Collie Benny (pictured above waiting to open his presents from Santa Paws) who passed in 2008 and Tramp (pictured above surrounded by flowers and probably begging Mike to play fetch), their active Border Collie X rescued from the streets of Philadelphia, but is now enjoying the good life and Sara S. of Philadelphia, PA ($100) in loving memory of her Border Collie Frasier who passed in 2010 (pictured above lounging on the couch). UPDATE 12/30/2010: Kay is doing quite well these days...enjoying the snow somewhat and she was even in the Holiday spirit donning her Christmas hat. She received a well deserved bath and grooming last week and got a new bone for Christmas...boy did she go to town. Thanks to all of you, there are new beginnings for Kay this New Year.  UPDATE 11/24/2010: Kay was rushed to the vet yesterday twice for an elevated fever 104.7, surgery complications from 11/18 and dehydration...our vet kept her overnight and she was released to us today -- we are hopeful w/the dual antibiotics her recovery will continue. Please keep her in your prayers. UPDATE: Please visit our Blog with updated photo's of Kay...also, we were $350 short for Kay's Chip In button, but have started a new one for the remaining monies needed for her Hernia Repair, Spay and necessary medical Kay underwent her HW treatment on 10/6 and is doing remarkably well (that's her winking in the first picture, just kidding - the sun was too bright)...the staff take excellent care of the animals at Pet Street Station Vet Hospital and Dr. Liddell has affectionately nicknamed Kay "Blue Eyes". She is on various medications, but is eating, drinking and enjoying life. While on potty breaks we occasionally find Kay rolling in the grass when there is a chill in the air. A special thank you goes to those that have said prayers and donated to her medical fund. We are hopeful her recovery continues, but she will return to Dr. Liddell in a few weeks to spay and repair her Hernia...please check back for updates.

Behind the Random Ruff!

UPDATE 8/29 --

Well, it has been a week + since Astro's injections and he is doing well...we would like to thank all of Astro's Chip-In guardians, esp. Judy L. of Ashford, CT for donating the remaining monies ($555) in loving memory of her beloved Border Collie Tal (pictured above in the beautiful Fall photo and w/Judy in the snow. Tal was also a HW+ survivor himself at age 2) -- Judy is a self-professed "sucker" for HW + Border Collies...thank you Judy for your generosity! Also, once medically cleared Astro will be traveling to Barb Armata of Taravale Farm in NY for a herding eval.

.......................................................................................

UPDATE 8/18 --

Astro went in for his HW treatment today, please send prayers his way...he will be there until Sat. morning -- Dr. Liddell and staff are pictured in the first photo and Astro is in very good hands. I took some pictures and wanted to share on his progress -- he was crying the blues to his tennis ball about today's events, but I told him I would hold down the Baseball fort, go Phillies:

.........................................................................................

Well, it has been a week since Astro made his way from TN to us -- traveling many miles and states to get here, through the generosity of many special guardians (above, Astro w/his last leg transporter Karen). We learned after Astro was rescued that he tested "high" postive w/Heartworms (common in the South) and so are committment to Astro continues. He will begin HW treatment on Wed. 8/18-19 -- he is being treated aggressively w/Immiticide which will require two (2) painful injections in the back muscles w/at least 30 days of cage rest w/limited activity. It is my strong opinion that Astro was used for breeding and kept in a crate for long hours, as he has old callouses on his elbows and is a true gentleman in the crate, way too quiet and on occasion will let out a random bark. He also displays some type of formal training either companion or working which once healed will be evaluated further. He does not like rain/thunder, however tolerates other loud noises and I suspect he may have caused his own misfortune as a "runner". We will continue to update his story w/new photo's of course. We are thankful for the generous donations we have received, but we are only @ 16% -- please forgive us, we only ask on behalf of those who can't. Astro is still needing financial "guardians", remember he is a ball "fanatic"...please bring our Chip-In goal home.

Good Girl Gretchen!

Gretchen had her dental procedure today -- we have good and bad news. The procedure went well, but lasted longer because Dr. Lynk had to extract seven (7) teeth today due to severe abcesses/degeneration which will require a ten (10) day course of Antibiotics. She is now back at her foster home resting and our plan is to introduce soft foods this evening. Please forgive us, but due to the extractions the total cost of her bill is $239.00 -- we initially only raised $190.00 without knowing the extent of her diseased teeth/mouth. We are asking for an additional three (3) donors to generously contribute $15 each to make up  the difference and have established another Chip-In button. Please see her vet bill for total charges. Please check back for updates!

We Salute the Scotch Collie ~ Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here in CNY the sun is shining bright and the dogs are soaking up the sun.
...it's Corned Beef, Carrots, Potatoes, Oh My! -- Yes, we must confess the dogs will be enjoying a small amount for dinner, who can resist those Irish Eyes. We hope all of you enjoy today and may the luck of the Irish be with you.

May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

In Like a Lion, Out Like A Lamb!

Things are pretty muddy here at the farm -- the snow is melting and soon will begin the painful process of taking down an outbuilding that collapsed during last month's heavy snow. The structure was once an Antique Auction House with original beams and wide plank flooring...soon to be gone, but certainly not forgotten (I love old things, although the dogs could care less). As for the Dogs, it was fun in the sun ~ ball/stick fetching and tag-team canine chasing.
